THE JUDICIARY OF THE GAMBIA CONVENES A TWO-DAY TRAINING ON JUDICIAL CONDUCT AND ETHICS FOR MAGISTRATES

The Judiciary of The Gambia with support from Gambia Participates and partners on Friday, 27th January, 2023 kick started a two-day training workshop on judicial conduct and ethics for magistrates across the country. The training, held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center, follows the development, by Gambian Judges, of a standard Judicial Conduct and Ethics Curriculum compatible with the Supplementary Code of Conduct for Judges Act and other international judicial instruments on ethics and conduct.

The capacity building initiative was organized by Gambia Participates with support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Gambia Participates, Marr Nyang stressed the importance of the training to strengthening democracy and the rule of law in the Gambia. He explained that the capacity building exercise is part of a project dubbed Implementing Anti-Corruption Treaties and Standards (IMPACTS).

Present at the event were Justice of the Court of Appeal, Basiru Mahoney, Hon Justice Kumba Sillah Camara, Hon Justice Awa Bah of the Supreme Court amongst others. The Hon Justices acknowledged the importance of such events in improving the capacity of the judicial officers.
